Deltona: Matan a sospechoso tras amenazar con arma a oficiales

Cuatro oficiales se vieron envueltos en el tiroteo frente a la residencia del sospechoso.

Oficiales disparan mortalmente a sospechoso quien presuntamente los amenazó tras haber huído de una parada de tráfico el martes en la tarde.

La oficina del Alguacil del Condado Volusia indicó que el sospechoso, Gregory Howe de 37 años, fue pronunciado muerto en el lugar luego de que oficiales le dispararan tras amenaza con arma de fuego de Howe hacia ellos.

El incidente empezó poco antes de las 3 p.m., en una parada de tráfico en South Clara y Beresford Avenue en DeLand, donde Howe estaba manejando una camioneta tipo pick up GMC color blanco, y huyo de la policía de DeLand, según el reporte.

No deputies or police officers were injured in the incident. The 37-year-old Deltona man, identified as Gregory Howe (DOB 04/04/1983), was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident began shortly before 3 p.m. with a traffic stop in the area of South Clara and West Beresford avenues in DeLand, where Howe, driving a white GMC pickup, fled from a DeLand PD officer. Howe, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, continued towards his home in Deltona as deputies responded to assist in the apprehension. Even after multiple successful stop stick hits, Howe was still able to reach his residence located on the 500 block of Haversham Road in the Saxon Ridge neighborhood of Deltona. Upon stopping his vehicle in his driveway, Howe, who was armed with a firearm, pointed it a deputies who were there to apprehend him. In response to Howe’s threatening actions, four deputies fired their weapons in the shooting. Additional information including photos, audio and video footage of the incident and the names of the deputies involved will be released in a subsequent update this week. The deputies have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard following a deputy-involved shooting, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation of the incident, also standard.

La oficina del alguacil mencionó que Howe huyo hacia su casa ubicada en el vecindario Saxon Ridge en la cuadra 500 de Haversham Road, Deltona. Durante la persecución, oficiales colocaron obstáculos para que se detuviese, sin embargo, Howe logró llegar a la residencia.

De acuerdo con el reporte, Howe detuvo su carro en el estacionamiento de su casa y, presuntamente, se encontraba armado con un arma de fuego, la cual apuntó a los oficiales que se encontraban en el lugar para detenerlo.

La oficina del alguacil dijo que, en respuesta para detener las acciones amenazantes de Howe, cuatro oficiales dispararon e hirieron mortalmente al sospechoso.

Los cuatro oficiales envueltos en el tiroteo, según las autoridades, fueron puestos bajo licencia administrativa y el Departamento de Aplicación de la Ley de Florida está investigando el incidente.
